A new month is here and that means it’s time to shuffle my oracle cards and see what’s coming our way! As you probably know, I don’t use these readings to try to predict the future. Instead, my goal is to get some guidance around how we can best navigate the month from a broader perspective.
I also share weekly oracle card readings in the Nourish + Shine Facebook group.
This month, I pulled 4 cards to answer the following questions:
- What is the overall theme for the month?
- What do we need to invite into our lives (what do we need more of) so that we can thrive this month?
- What do we need to let go of (what do we need less of) so that we can thrive this month?
- Is there any additional guidance that can help us this month.

THIS MONTH’S THEME
This is the last reading for 2018, and we’re closing out the year with a major arcana card: Triumph. Although this has been a interesting, very internal, and somewhat challenging year, this card is reminding us that we have the inner knowing and strength to create what we desire.
This is the perfect card to end the year because it’s about looking ahead, setting goals and making plans. You don’t have to wait until January to start making plans for the new year. You can start now by reflecting on everything that’s come into your life over the past year and what you’ve learned from it. How has 2018 changed you? What have you learned about yourself? What have you learned about what you want and don’t want for yourself? How can you use this knowledge and experience to fuel you going forward?
It’s important to focus on what you want to create in your life, not what you’re leaving behind. Try not to see this year as a failure if you haven’t achieved what you set out to achieve. Sometimes you need contrast to show you what you truly want, and you need time to build a foundation that will be able to support your dreams. Trust that the inner growth you’ve experienced over the past year has been setting the foundation that you need going forward and get excited about what’s ahead of you!
WHAT TO INVITE IN
The Transformation card is another major arcana card, which tells us that this will also be an important theme this month. Transformation is all about endings and beginnings. You can’t have a new beginning without an end! This card is not only signifying the end of the year so that a new one can begin, but also the end of a phase in your life.
Rather than fighting to hold on to what’s familiar, you’ll need to embrace change and embrace the unknown in order to experience the new beginning that you’re truly desiring. Consider where you might be holding yourself back out of fear. What are you still clinging to, even if you know it’s not serving you any longer? This month is the perfect time to wrap up any loose ends so that you can truly move forward.
Ask yourself if you are truly willing to embrace all the uncertainty that comes with pursuing your big dreams. Remember, uncertainty doesn’t mean the outcome will be bad! It could be amazing! But you won’t know until you actually walk through the door and close it behind you. You can’t just stand in the doorway with one foot inside and one foot outside. From there you won’t fully experience what either place has to offer. You must make a choice and courageously go all in with whatever you choose.
WHAT TO LET GO
Card: Conflict & Defeat
The biggest obstacle that you’ve had to face this year has been YOU! This is actually always the case, despite the way we tend to blame external circumstances or people in our lives. We have a lot more control of our experience than we like to admit! However, this year you’ve probably come face-to-face with the beliefs, patterns and habits you’ve been carrying that have shaped your experience, whether in a positive or negative way.
You may feel like you’ve been working on your mindset all year…and you have. You’ve come a long way! This card is here to remind you that there will always be work to do when it comes to unraveling old beliefs and patterns.
This isn’t a bad thing and it’s not something to fear. It’s important to remember that you are not broken, and you don’t need to “fix” your mindset. There’s no finish line when it comes to personal growth.
You’ve been drawn to internal work because of a deep, personal calling to continue growing and evolving. It’s not that you need change. It’s that you want to change. And really, it’s not about changing so much as unraveling. It’s about peeling back the parts of you that aren’t really yours to begin with…so that more and more of YOU can shine through.
As you continue to grow, try to show yourself the same compassion you would extend to the people you care about. You’ll always be a work in progress…and that’s something to embrace and enjoy!
Card: Rejoice in Celebration
We’re finishing the reading (and the year!) with a perfect reminder to take time to celebrate! This message has a dual meaning…many of us take time to celebrate at this time of year, so this is a reminder to enjoy the holidays, be present and have some fun!!
The other meaning here is to take some time to celebrate yourself. Celebrate how far you’ve come this year. Celebrate the person you’ve become and are still becoming! Success isn’t measured by what you’ve accomplished. It’s measured by how you feel and how you’ve experienced your life. You’ve taken some big steps this year towards creating a life that feels good to you…even if it doesn’t look like the life you used to imagine (or that anyone used to imagine for you.)
Celebrate everything you have, everything you’ve created, everything you’ve overcome, everything that has challenged you and made you grow, everyone you’ve had to lean on, invite in or let go. Celebrate the new experiences, the ones you’ve finally repeated enough times to move on from, the experiences you’re leaving behind and the ones you have yet to create.
Most of all, celebrate YOU…and the imperfect, but beautiful life you’ve come here to experience. <3
